Why your search snippet matters

Ranking is only half the battle. Your snippet competes with nine other results for the click, and a compelling title and description can lift click-through rate even without improving your position.

Tips for a winning snippet

  • Put your primary keyword near the start of the title.
  • Include a benefit or number, such as “in 5 minutes” or “2026 guide”.
  • End the description with a clear call to action.
  • Keep each page's title and description unique.

FAQs

Why does Google cut off my title?

Google truncates titles by pixel width, around 600px on desktop, not by character count. Wide letters like W and M use more space than narrow ones like i and l.

Will Google always show my meta description?

Not always. Google rewrites descriptions when it thinks another part of the page better matches the search. A well-written description makes that less likely.

Is this preview exact?

It's a close approximation using Google's fonts and pixel limits. Real results can vary slightly with rich results, dates and the searcher's device.
